I almost always draw a blank when someone asks me to list my favorite movies or songs or childhood memories or my top five lip gloss brands. But when somebody asks me about my favorite author, I can answer without pause.
Michael Ondaatje.
I thank my dear friend, D.Y., for introducing me to the book that he described as, "every English-major-girl's favorite book." Apparently, I am a typical female, but clearly, I was no English major.
Reading In The Skin of A Lion completely changed the way I appreciate literature. And I quickly gobbled down almost all of Ondaatje's published work as soon as I finished it. His books are mysterious, sensual, nuanced, layered, intellectual yet relatable on the most basic human levels, and provocative. Delectable.
The Cat's Table was just recently published and I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on it. Check out this review on NPR.
