Mammoth Lakes

We needed a getaway.  We needed to smell the mountain air, get out of the traffic, and spend some time with mother nature.  We decided all of this on Wednesday, booked a great room online and hit the road on Friday night after work.  I can't remember the last time we both felt so refreshed.

We did a 10 mile out and back hike to Duck Lake.  The views were incredible and I was enamored with the green depths of Barney Lake (below).  This image doesn't come close to capturing the green-ness of the water!

On the way home we stopped at the Manzanar Japanese Internment Camp, where thousands of Japanese-Americans were forcibly imprisoned without due process after the bombings at Pearl Harbor.  Fear and prejudice are a nasty combination.

There were strings and strings of origami cranes at the monument memorial site.  How touchingly apropos.  If only those wishes for world peace had been granted.

We hiked, we ate well, we soaked in the hot tub, we slept in, we had a relaxed road trip and now we are ready for the week!
