From People Who Know
Have you seen Cornell University's Legacy Project website?
The project has archived advice from over 1500 American elders on everything from money, child rearing, love, and spirituality, to choosing a fulfilling career. It is an absolute treasure trove of inspiration and comfort. T and I spent hours on the site a few nights ago.
What did many of the elders say?
Travel as much as possible while you are young (don't wait!),
don't marry too young,
always choose people over things,
teach your children to save money,
make sure you have a deep friendship with the person you choose as a spouse,
do whatever you can to find a truly fulfilling career,
and finally, "to enjoy life, you must make it enjoyable".
Here is my favorite little gem, an interview with Gert, age 101.
PS. The book about the project has been promoted to my must-read list!
